The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Congress slammed the Rekha Gupta-led BJP Government and its “four-engine” Government over the death and alleged sexual assault of the girl in Nehru Vihar in the national Capital.
The AAP criticised the ruling BJP and its “four-engine” Government over the death and alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in the national Capital, with party chief Arvind Kejriwal saying Union Home Minister Amit Shah should be held accountable. The minor girl’s body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in northeast Delhi’s Nehru Vihar on Saturday, with police suspecting sexual assault based on initial medical observations.
In a post on X, former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said the law and order situation in Delhi has been destroyed by the BJP.
“The rape and murder of a 9-year-old innocent girl in Delhi has shaken everyone to the core,” he said. “Even with the BJP’s so-called four-engine Government, our daughters are not safe. Home Minister Amit Shah and his four-engine Government must be held accountable. The daughters of Delhi demand both answers and justice,” the AAP supremo posted in Hindi.
The BJP refers to its Governments at the Centre and state as “double-engine” Governments. The AAP referring to the BJP Governments at the Centre and in Delhi as well as the LG office and the MCD calls it a four-engine Government.
Echoing similar views, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Atishi posted on X, “Who is responsible for the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Delhi? Who is responsible for the worsening law and order situation?” Despite a four-engine BJP Government, “our daughters are not safe”, the ex-CM said. “Where is Chief Minister Rekha Gupta? Where is the Union Home Minister Amit Shah?” she posted in Hindi.
While Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav said that the brutal rape and murder of a nine-year-old innocent girl at Nehru Vihar, was heart-breaking, and the incident has yet again exposed the ‘jungle raj’ prevailing in the Capital after the BJP came to power, as it was bothered only about the safety and security of its leaders and ministers, and not about the common people. He demanded strictest action against those responsible for this heinous crime.
Yadav said that though sharp rise in crimes has put the life of the people in peril after BJP came to power in Delhi, the BJP Government gave priority to upgrade the security of the Delhi BJP president which it felt was more important than the life of a nine-year-old girl.
He said that after BJP came to power, the Delhi Police was quick to enhance the security of Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva to Z-plus category, though common people have been bearing the brunt of rising crimes in the city.
Virendra Sachdeva slams AAP for politicising Nehru Vihar incident
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for politicising the Nehru Vihar incident saying AAP leaders continue to make political statements whenever crimes occur against young girls.
“About 11 years ago, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politicised the tragic murder of the innocent Nirbhaya,” he said.
Sachdeva said that undoubtedly, such heinous crimes against innocent victims are deplorable and must never happen. However, to reduce these incidents to mere law and order issues is political cunningness because those who commit such crimes not only have criminal tendencies but also suffer from a perverse mentality.
He added that while the police have always in past taken strict action in most such cases and the immediate arrest of the accused in the recent Nehru Vihar case is necessary, there is also an urgent need to run social awareness campaigns to awaken society against such criminals and instill fear of consequences among potential offenders.
Sachdeva expressed deep anguish over the horrific crime committed against a girl from a minority community in Nehru Vihar.
Shockingly, the accused also belongs to the same minority community and lives in the same neighborhood. Delhi Police has identified him and will arrest him soon. However, the people of Delhi want to ask a question to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena in this regard.
“Every year, one or two such horrifying crimes against girls or women are reported. The police arrest the perpetrators and ensure their punishment. But Kejriwal and Atishi must answer why their governments have not launched even a single social awareness campaign in the past 11 years to prevent crimes against women? Under their government, the heads of the Delhi Commission for Women or the Child Rights Commission have been known to comment on issues from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Yet, not once did they launch any concrete campaign to change the criminal mindset of a distorted section of society towards girls and women,” he said.
