Punjab to Fly Board Toppers on Educational Air Tours Across India

Wednesday, 28 May 2025 | PNS | Chandigarh

Setting a precedent in educational incentives, the Punjab Government on Tuesday announced a new initiative as the state’s top-performing students of Class X and XII from government schools will now be rewarded with an educational air journey to some of India’s most historically significant cities.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the move during an interactive felicitation ceremony with state toppers in Chandigarh. The move aimed to broaden the intellectual and cultural horizons of meritorious students while memorably and aspirationally celebrating their academic excellence.

This initiative will cover over 60 high achievers across districts, who will get a rare opportunity to experience a meticulously planned vocational trip by air. These tours are not meant to be mere excursions; they will be learning-oriented journeys, with historical, cultural, and educational significance embedded into every itinerary.

“If needed, we’ll book two planes — that’s how committed we are to inspiring these young minds,” said Chief Minister Mann. The move comes on the heels of Punjab’s impressive board results — a 95.6 percent pass percentage in Class X, and 91 percent in Class XII — and reaffirms the government’s resolve to make quality education not just accessible, but aspirational.

At the heart of this announcement lies a compelling message — academic excellence deserves not just recognition but meaningful rewards. Addressing the gathered toppers from across the state (excluding Ludhiana, which had a separate event), Mann offered more than congratulations — he shared insights, personal experiences, and heartfelt advice.

Emphasizing humility and purpose, he told the students, “Top ranks are earned not just through hard work but with the support of teachers and peers. Don’t let arrogance creep in; your competition helped shape your success.”

The Chief Minister also urged the students to chart their career paths based on passion and personal interest. “Go where your heart is,” he said, comparing teachers to runways that launch planes — a poetic reminder to always acknowledge and respect one’s roots. Mann also challenged the societal norm of measuring wealth by property or bank balance, asserting that true richness lies in education and intellect.

Drawing from his own journey — from comedian to Chief Minister, Mann inspired students with a powerful message of perseverance. “Art gave me recognition, but politics came with people’s trust. If you are determined and hard-working, nothing can stop you,” he said, striking a chord with many in the audience.

At the same time, Mann criticized previous regimes for neglecting government schools, reducing them to mid-day meal centers while sending their own children to elite institutions. “We are reversing that,” he declared, highlighting ongoing efforts to revamp government school infrastructure and ensure teachers focus solely on academics.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who welcomed the CM at the event, echoed the sentiment that Punjab is witnessing an “education revolution”. With such forward-looking initiatives, the state government is setting new benchmarks in educational empowerment, ensuring that every high-achieving student gets both recognition and the wings to soar.
